You will live in joy and peace. The
mountains and hills will burst into
song, and the trees of the field
will clap their hands! Where once
there were thorns, cypress trees
will grow. Where nettles grew,
myrtles will sprout up. These
events will bring great honor to
Jehovah’s name; they will be an
everlasting sign of his power and
love. Isaiah 55:12-13
This is the kind of joy we will experience in the new Heavens and new Earth. It is a time we should all be looking forward to. “Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old heaven and the old earth had disappeared. And the sea was also gone.” Revelation 21:1
If this is our future, then it will be peaceful and full of love and joy. It comes after the thousand-year reign and the great white throne judgement and the second death, so only God’s faithful are left to populate the new Earth. Now, even if we are close to Armageddon, a thousand years is a long time, but, we have to remember what Peter wrote: “But you must not forget this one thing, dear friends: A day is like a thousand years to the Lord, and a thousand years is like a day.” 2 Peter 3:8. I like to think before we know it we will live on the New Earth. Kind of like when you suddenly realize not only are you 70 but your daughter is 50! Years go by really fast.
So what is our joy right now? I heard at church a week ago that joy is that calm assurance in your heart that everything is right between yourself and Jesus. I loved that “calm assurance.” For a long time I thought joy had to include song and dance and celebration. But think how much more permanent that calm assurance that one day we will live in the New Earth.
I pray that God will bless you with the kind of joy that is that calm assurance in your heart that all is right with you and Jesus.
