“I know that you live in the city where Satan has his throne, yet you have remained loyal to me. You refused to deny me even when Antipas, my faithful witness, was martyred among you there in Satan’s city. But I have a few complaints against you. You tolerate some among you whose teaching is like that of Balaam, who showed Balak how to trip up the people of Israel. He taught them to sin by eating food offered to idols and by committing sexual sin. In a similar way, you have some Nicolaitans among you who follow the same teaching. Repent of your sin, or I will come to you suddenly and fight against them with the sword of my mouth.” Revelation 2:13-16
Have you ever thought you were living in the city of Satan? I guess, really, we all are. We are living in the world, and the Father of the world is Satan. Jesus says that the people of Pergamum witnessed the murder of Antipas for being a Christian. You might think that would make the other Christians there think twice about standing up for their faith, but evidently it didn’t and they continued to follow Jesus while the legions following Satan were everywhere.
But, they were sinning and needed to repent. What were they doing? They were allowing some of the people around them to present false teachings, in particular eating food given to idols and teachings promoting sexual immorality. Allowing others to teach false doctrine is a sin. Jesus said he would come among them and fight against the false teachers with his two edged sword.
You must examine what is being said and make sure it aligns with the word of God. You can identify false teachers and antiChrists by applying this criteria from 1 John 2:22-23 “And who is a liar? Anyone who says that Jesus is not the Christ . Anyone who denies the Father and the Son is an antichrist. Anyone who denies the Son doesn’t have the Father, either. But anyone who acknowledges the Son has the Father, also.” If you determine someone is am antichrist he can not be part of the fellowship of your church.
Some people try to say that what is written to the seven churches of Asia is for that time, but it is for everyone. After each of the seven messages to the seven churches, John quoted Jesus as saying, “Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches.” The Wisdom Of Revelation just like the entire Bible is for all Christians.
I pray that though you live in the midst of the world run by Satan, God will keep you safe and righteous. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
