A Garden in Early Spring

I am overwhelmed with joy in Jehovah my God! For he has dressed me with the clothing of salvation and draped me in a robe
of righteousness. I am like a bridegroom dressed for his wedding or a bride with her jewels. The Sovereign Jehovah will show his justice to the nations of the world. Everyone will praise him!  His righteousness will be like a garden in early spring, with plants springing up everywhere. Isaiah 61:10-11

How joyous, a wedding in spring!  I can’t feel it.  Why not, you might ask.  Well, I don’t wear jewelry.  I don’t wear make up.  I prefer natural things. Cheeks red from running in a brisk breeze.  Ok, too much arthritis, I can’t exactly run anymore.  But,  enough about me personally.

The joy, the overwhelming joy,  is in God not in the wedding.  Now,  that,  we should all be able to agree with.  He is such a strong, faithful, kind,  and powerful God!  We should all take joy in Him.  But,  then it says he has clothed us in the clothing of salvation and a robe of righteousness.   This means, we have eternal life, and we have the power to do right and stay away from sin.   Another reason for great joy!

So the wedding part is that we will be dressed as the best dressed couple at a wedding.  The finest of clothes in one’s lifetime.  But, then today you can get married in jeans if you want to or shorts on a dock at the lake like I did in 1994.  Now, those kind of wedding clothes are more my style.   And, I am sure you can picture yourself as a bride or groom in your personal best style because only the best could be used to symbolize salvation and God’s righteousness extended to us!

Isaiah is talking to the Jews who are being returned from captivity but the salvation and righteousness are for them and for their children’s children. For us as Christians.   And,  it will be announced everywhere,  and God will be praised.  So,  just in case your picture of the wedding finery of the bride and groom isn’t enough, we have another illustration of his righteousness.  It is like an early spring garden with plants popping up everywhere.  My daffodils, hyacinths, and vincas are all blooming and tons of other plants, some destined to be weeds and some flowers,  are popping up everywhere as I write this.  What a wonderful picture of God’s righteousness. They embody hope and spread joy!

I pray that you will increase your hope and joy as you allow God to clothe you in salvation and give you a robe of righteousness.   Praise Him among the nations.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
